Beauty regulators in Asia gather at ‘Korea Kolmar’… Visit ‘K-Beauty R&D Heart’ to check Korea’s competitiveness

[News Space=Reporter seungwon lee] High-ranking government officials in charge of cosmetics regulations in Asian countries visited Kolmar Korea. With K-beauty recently gaining popularity in the global market, they wanted to directly check out Kolmar Korea’s global research and development system and hear opinions on exports.

Korea Kolmar announced on the 2nd that cosmetics regulatory authorities from major Asian countries visited Korea Kolmar’s General Technology Center on the 30th of last month. The visit was attended by about 20 people, including regulatory authorities from 7 Asian countries, including the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM), Thailand’s Food and Drug Authority (Thai-FDA), and the Philippines Food and Drug Administration (PH-FDA).

This visit is a field trip program held to commemorate the '2025 One Asia Cosmetics Regulatory Innovation Forum' hosted by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. The Korea Kolmar Comprehensive Technology Center was chosen as the most representative place to experience the innovative technology of K-beauty, and the visit was successful. Korea Kolmar is the only cosmetics company that was inspected during this visit to Korea by Asian regulatory authorities.

Korea Kolmar Integrated Research Institute is the first integrated research institute in Korea that integrates cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and health functional food research institutes, and is evaluated as a research and development facility that is hard to find anywhere else in the world. Around 600 specialized researchers are developing various integrated technologies and supporting the competitiveness of K-beauty.

During the visit, Asian regulatory authorities had the opportunity to communicate directly with Kolmar Korea’s management and tour the main research facilities of the institute. They also experienced the creativity and technology of K-beauty by experiencing color mixing directly at Chroma Kolmar Studio, a customized space for color cosmetics development.

“I had more confidence in the company after visiting it in person and confirming its technological prowess, which I had often seen in documents,” said Kavitha Sathasivan, Director General of Malaysia’s National Pharmaceutical Control Authority (NPRA). “I could clearly feel that the secret to the success of K-beauty, which is popular in Asian countries, comes from such solid research and development technologies.”

Choi Hyun-gyu, CEO of Kolmar Korea, said, “I expect this visit will be an opportunity for Korean products exported to Asian countries to leave a better impression,” and added, “We will continue to strive to further strengthen the status of K-beauty in the global market based on our world-class technology and know-how in growing together with our customers.”

Meanwhile, the '2025 One Asia Cosmetics Regulatory Innovation Forum' is a venue where regulatory authorities from each Asian country and domestic cosmetics industry officials participate to discuss regulatory innovation and cooperation measures, and has been held annually since 2014. This year's event was held at COEX in Seoul from May 28 to 30. Various programs were held to look into the current status of cosmetics safety regulation policies in each country and a reasonable future regulatory system for products that apply cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI).
