[뉴스스페이스=윤슬 기자] '천재 단어 학습견(Gifted Word Learner, GWL)'으로 불리는 특수 능력을 가진 개들이 주인들의 대화를 엿듣기만 해도 새로운 사물 이름을 학습할 수 있는 것으로 확인됐다. 헝가리 에오트뵈스 로란드(ELTE) 대학 연구팀이 밝힌 바에 따르면, 10마리 GWL 개를 대상으로 진행된 실험에서 직접 교육 시 80% 정확도에 달하는 학습률을 보였고, 엿듣기 상황에서는 무려 100% 정확도를 기록했다. 이 연구는 2026년 1월 8일 과학전문지 '사이언스(Science)'에 게재됐다. ​ 실험 설계와 정량적 결과 연구팀은 GWL 개 10마리에게 두 가지 조건을 적용했다. 첫째, 주인이 개에게 직접 장난감 이름을 반복하며 가르치는 '직접 주소( Addressed)' 조건에서 중간 정확도 92%(IQR 71~98%)를 달성했으며, 둘째 '엿듣기(Overhearing)' 조건에서는 주인이 다른 가족과 대화하는 모습을 개가 관찰하게 한 결과 중간 정확도 83%(IQR 77~100%)로 비슷하거나 우수한 성과를 보였다. 각 조건당 총 8분 노출(4일간 분산) 후 테스트에서 10마리 중 7마리가 새 장난감을 정확히 물어왔으며, 첫 시도
