[News Space=Reporter seungwon lee] Yanolja Platform (CEO Bae Bo-chan) announced that it has created an economic effect of 21.9 trillion won over the past five years.
On the 18th, the Yanolja platform announced through the '2024 Nol Wave Report - Public-Private Cooperation' that "this is the result of contributing to the revitalization of domestic travel and development of the local economy through cooperation with various local governments and public institutions."
The Play Wave Report is a report published for the first time this year to highlight the social and economic value created by ‘play activities’, and ‘wave’ refers to the positive ripples that play culture has on society.
According to the report, the production-induced effect through the Yanolja platform for about five years from January 2020 to November 2024 totaled 21.9 trillion won. The production-induced effect is the result of accommodation, transportation, food, and other services consumed by travelers stimulating various industrial activities and causing additional production. The analysis was conducted based on the accommodation reservation data of the Yanolja platform and the Bank of Korea’s industrial correlation table.
It was found that the added value inducing effects, such as profits and wages, generated in the local community through travel amounted to 8.7 trillion won. This shows that promoting tourism through platforms is greatly contributing to the development of the local economy.
The proportion of non-metropolitan accommodation reservations on the Yanolja platform increased from 55% (as of 2019) to 60% (as of 2024), showing an increase in economic contribution to the local community. This can be interpreted as a result of contributing to enhancing regional tourism competitiveness through customized projects that reflect regional characteristics.
Since 2020, when social distancing began due to the pandemic, the Yanolja platform has actively expanded public-private cooperation projects to prepare for the decline in domestic travel demand. Over the past five years, it has carried out a total of 86 collaboration projects with the goals of ▲strengthening domestic tourism competitiveness ▲improving regional accessibility ▲securing regional self-sufficiency. Through this, it has provided customer benefits worth approximately KRW 1.2 trillion, including issuing a total of 850,000 coupons, to support the revitalization of regional tourism. In the process, it has built an extensive cooperation network by collaborating with approximately 30 local governments and over 210,000 partner companies.
The Yanolja platform presented 'DRIVE' as a successful collaboration model with the local community. It is said to have revitalized the entire tourism industry through five core strategies: ▲Discovery (exploring the hidden charm of the region), ▲Relationship (connecting all stages of the trip), ▲Inspiration (enhancing the enjoyment of travel through festivals), ▲Value (combining the values of travel and daily life), and ▲Engagement (expanding opportunities for tourists to experience the local area).
Going forward, we plan to further enhance travel experiences based on the abundant know-how, inventory, and diverse content we have accumulated as a leading domestic leisure platform, while building an ecosystem that can enhance the value of travelers and local communities. We will focus on spreading a sustainable travel and leisure culture while emphasizing the importance of a virtuous cycle structure where everyone can coexist through travel.
Bae Bo-chan, CEO of Yanolja Platform, said, “If we have been strengthening activities to promote the charm of domestic travel for the past five years, our goal for the next five years is to expand the size of the leisure industry by creating the best travel environment that can satisfy domestic and foreign customers.” He added, “Through this, we plan to solidify our competitiveness in the global tourism market and join the journey of Korea becoming a tourism powerhouse.”
